Time to Regroup and Move Forward

Well, the November election is over and it wasn't a great year for Republicans in New York.

In our area Senator Nick Spano narrowly lost his senate seat after representing us in the New York State Senate and Assembly for the last 28 years. We will miss his constant work on behalf of our city and all that he would have achieved for us in the future. At the same time, we thank him for everything he has done for us. Without his help Yonkers would have had a very difficult time getting through many budget crises. Thank you, Nick, for everything!

I don't think that this loss means that we will lose Nick. I'm sure that he will continue to work for the people of Yonkers in some other capacity.

The one bright spot in this election year is the election of Mike Spano to his old seat in the New York State Assembly. My thanks to everyone who worked on Mike's campaign to ensure our representation in the Assembly.

And thanks go to all of our other candidates who expended their time, effort and money to represent our party in the elections - Rich Hoffman & Jim Faulkner who ran for Congress; Jay Savino, who also ran for State Senate; Peter Kuper, our candidate for Family Court Judge; Rory Bellantoni and Joseph Cerreto who ran for State Supreme Court; Charles Devlin, who ran for County Court Judge and all of our other candidates for statewide and national office - John Faso, Scott Vanderhoef, Chris Callaghan, Jeanine Pirro and John Spencer. Our thanks to all of you! Also to all of those who worked behind the scenes, right up to election day, for our candidates and our party.

Now is when we must regroup and head into 2007 with the determination and effort to win our Yonkers City elections in November and the special election for the county legislature this February. We need every available volunteer to help us. If you don't know what to do or who to contact, contact me. Together we will move forward to make Yonkers the best place to be!

Campaign Reflections
Jim Faulkner

Hi everyone -

I just want to thank all of you for your support and assistance in this year's congressional campaign. It's a good feeling to know that I have so many good friends behind me, regardless of the outcome.

I’ve learned a lot in this campaign. I guess every first time candidate does. From collecting signatures for minor party nominating petitions, challenging your opponent’s petitions, coordinating volunteers, learning to work with various community organizations and the press, campaigning at community events, learning what support to expect (or not to expect) from county and local chairpersons . . . it just goes on and on. The good thing about this is that you now have invaluable experience to run your next campaign or to assist others in theirs.

My heartfelt hanks to everyone who contributed financially to the campaign, helped me with events and appearances, passed out my literature, organized volunteers, talked to your friends and family, or came out to work the polls on election day.

Now it's time to move on - Yonkers '07 is just around the corner and statewide and national elections in '08 are not far behind. In just two months we have a special election to fill the vacancy in the 16th Westchester County Legislative District. In that limited time we must select our candidate and work together to turn out the vote and get him or her elected to represent Yonkers on the County level.

After that, we move right into the Yonkers City elections this November. Offices appearing on the ballot will include Mayor, the 1st, 3rd & 5th City Council Districts and City Court Judge. We need to work together to win these races. Without a combined effort and focus we will not win. As they lottery people tell us, "Ya gotta be in it to win it."

Again, all my thanks and don't hesitate to contact me, for any reason.

December 2006

Dear Friends,

Let me first begin by relaying a heartfelt THANK YOU for all of your hard work this past fall. I greatly appreciate your confidence in me and all that you have done on my behalf.

Without question, the 2006 Election was a hard fought battle. We worked together to highlight the important issues that are affecting our communities and our families here in Yonkers.

Ultimately, the widespread dissatisfaction with officials on the national level, combined with an enormous Democratic tidal wave here in New York, proved too strong to overcome.

As I recall my tenure in the State Legislature, I am extremely proud of the accomplishments and the positive results that I have been able to deliver to the people of this great City.

Your dedicated support both this year and, for many of you, over the past 28 years, provided me with the opportunity to be an effective voice in the State Legislature for nearly three decades.

It has been a tremendous honor to be of service to you for so many years. I certainly intend to continue to be an active member of our community and the Yonkers Republican Party.

Please accept my warm wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year!

Best Regards,

NICK SPANO
Senator

Pasted Graphic A Message From:
County Legislator Bernice Spreckman

Dear Friends,

For many years I have produced entertaining and exciting events featuring many talented seniors from our area. Many local, state and county officials make guest appearances and some even perform, including yours truly! All attendees enjoy great food and entertainment at the Polish Community Center.

These senior shows, held twice a year, are paid through grants secured every year by Senator Nick Spano. Thank you Senator Spano!

The purpose of these events is to not only entertain our fellow seniors but to send a message that I live by – “Keep your mind and body active and you’ll live a longer, healthier life!”

On November 30, 2006, I held the 2006 Senior Holiday Show which was attended by over 350 guests - the largest attended show to date. It was a great show enjoyed by all. I sincerely hope that I will be able to continue the tradition and keep our area seniors active and entertained.

For more information on these shows, please feel free to contact my office at (914) 995-7721. Enjoy the attached pictures!

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Sincerely,

Bernice Spreckman
