Spencer Defeats McFarland
pastedGraphic
John Spencer roundly defeated K.T. McFarland in Tuesdays primary 60% to 40% as Republicans expressed their approval of Spencer’s issues oriented campaign and their disappointment in McFarland’s campaign of personal attacks.

State GOP Chairman Stephen Minarik said of Spencer’s campaign, "John Spencer ran a grassroots campaign based on the issues that matter to New Yorkers. Spencer's platform of tax cuts, job growth, and keeping America safe is what New Yorkers deserve in a United States Senator."

"Today the campaign begins, and New Yorkers will begin to see the difference," Spencer said Tuesday night. "The more they learn about her record, the more they'll see that I'm someone who will stand up to terrorism and support our military." "She's trying to be all things to all people, but she can't hide from her record," Spencer said of Clinton. "Meanwhile, it's very clear where I stand."

The National Republican Senatorial Committee released this statement from Chairwoman Elizabeth Dole:
"I would like to congratulate John Spencer on his victory today. Mayor Spencer is an experienced and principled leader. Mayor Spencer will hold Senator Clinton accountable as the Senator attempts to redefine herself as a moderate while her record and past rhetoric tell a very different story."

The former Yonkers Mayor’s record is well known in his home city where he cut taxes, helped to bring an end to the federal oversight of Yonkers Schools that was the result of a federal desegregation case and brought about the elimination of the state’s Emergency Financial Control Board. He was also effective at bringing business and development to Yonkers, a movement which has very ably been carried on by Yonkers current Mayor, Philip Amicone.

Spencer is hoping for several debates to compel Sen. Clinton to address the issues in a format where she will have to answer for her record. Spencer has notified NBC News that he will accept an offer to conduct a debate on “Meet the Press”. Spencer said, "I’m ready to debate; any time, any place …the question is… will she?”

Hoffman Defeats Russell
pastedGraphic
Richard Hoffman defeated Jim Russell in Tuesday’s primary for the 18th Congressional district by a margin of 53% to 47%.

Hoffman celebrated his victory at the Polish Center in Yonkers with former Mayor John Spencer, who defeated K.T. McFarland. John Faso, the GOP candidate for governor was there as were Christopher Callaghan, the candidate for comptroller; Jim Faulkner, running for the 17th Congressional District; Zehy Jereis, the Yonkers GOP Chairman; Jay Savino, running for the 34th Senate District; and Michael Spano, running to return to his old seat in the state Assembly (93rd A.D.).

Hoffman is glad the primary is over so that he can focus full time on the real goal - defeating Nita Lowey in November.

Rich said that he can now focus on “a serious agenda for serious problems”. Primary among these are securing our borders to protect against illegal immigration, protecting our citizens from those who would come here to harm us; properly funding our troops; working to avoid nuclear proliferation; combatting terrorism; encouraging the growth of small businesses; job creation; and protecting the taxpayers of New York from wasteful expenditures and unnecessary taxes.

Hoffman said, “I’d like to thank everyone who helped me, whether they helped to hand out literature, circulated nominating petitions, posted signs, made telephone calls or contributed financially. This was a true grass roots movement. I’d particularly like to thank Zehy Jereis (Yonkers GOP Chairman) for all of the time and effort he put into my campaign and Mayor Philip Amicone (Yonkers) for his help in organizing the effort to make phone calls to turn out the vote on primary day.

Richard got into politics in the state of Pennsylvania, working for the ’92 Bush for President Campaign and has subsequently advised and assisted campaigns on all levels of government.  In 2004 he was named Executive Director of the Yonkers City Republican Committee and also has served as President of his local Republican club. He lives in Yonkers with his wife and three children.

pastedGraphicFAULKNER CONDEMNS ENGEL FOR ADVOCATING CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTIONS FOR TERRORISTS WHILE ENGEL OPPOSES GIVING OUR SOLDIERS THEIR BASIC CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEES.

On August 9, 2006 at a community meeting in Yonkers Engel asserted that there are no terrorists - only criminals. Six hours later London Police arrested 24 terrorists in a plot to blow up U.S. airliners over the Atlantic Ocean.

Before this plot was foiled Engel stated that any “terrorists” whom we apprehend should be entitled to the full protection of our constitution, laws and criminal procedures, even if apprehended outside of our country.

He feels differently about the men and women of our armed forces.

Our service men and women abroad should be protected when they undertake peacekeeping and military operations. By voting in favor of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Eliot Engel voted to deny our soldiers the basic constitutional protections to which they are entitled, such as trial by jury. (Vote 106, 5/10/01) But this is nothing new. While voting against this amendment to protect our military men and women Engel inexplicably voted to fund the International Criminal Court. (Vote 155, 5/10/02)

It is outrageous for Engel to propose protections for terrorists that he would deny to the men and women of our armed forces. Jim Faulkner believes that Congress must protect the people who protect us.

Faulkner believes we must institute “Fortress Israel” so that Israel can protect itself from unprovoked attacks. Israel, which has long been our ally, has been attacked by Hezbolah from Lebanon with weapons supplied by Iran & Syria, both of which seek the elimination of Israel. Israel must be provided with the military assistance which it needs to repel and defeat those who threaten their existence as well as our own.

Jim Faulkner believes that any country which allows terrorists to use their land to launch attacks on Israel or provides arms to terrorists which are used against Israel must be held accountable. He believes that we must protect our strongest and most loyal Mideast ally.

Jim Faulkner is the Republican candidate for the seat in the 17th New York Congressional district. Visit him at www.jimfaulkner.org to learn more.

Senator
Nick Spano
September 2006

Dear Friends,

With Election Day just over two months away, I am happy to report that my campaign is in full swing.

Thanks to so many people, like all of you, the outpouring of support for my re-election to the State Senate has truly been awesome.

I am also getting positive feedback from my family, friends and neighbors here in Yonkers. Our commercials are airing on cable television, and we have already started reaching out to voters through direct mail.

This campaign is about people,
not politics. It’s about which candidate can best serve the people of the 35th District, and deliver real results for the residents of our community.

I am proud of my record of accomplishments, and I am proud of my service to the people I represent.

During the days and weeks ahead, I am going to need each and every one of you. This campaign is going be hard fought, but at the end of the day, I know that our team will celebrate a great victory.

During my re-election campaign, we are going back to basics. We are going to campaign the way my father did during his years of service . . . by putting feet on the street, by knocking on doors, by shaking hands at shopping centers and greeting commuters at train stations.

Every effort, whether big or small, is going to put us one step closer to a victory.

As always, I am here to serve you. If you have a question, a problem or want to share your views, please know that I am here to listen to your concerns and help you in anyway I can.

Best Regards,
NICK SPANO
Senator
P.S. If you are interested in helping in my re-election campaign please contact my campaign headquarters at 914-963-0161.
